Evacuation order lifted, county offices to reopen Thursday

Some of the outer bands of Hurricane Gustav could be seen darkening the skies near the Jefferson County Courthouse on Monday afternoon as the storm made landfall in Louisiana.

The mandatory evacuation order for Jefferson, Orange and Hardin counties has been lifted, according to a news release from emergency management officials.

Starting at 6 a.m. Tuesday residents can return to their homes, according to the news release.

The order was issued on Sunday as Hurricane Gustav approached the Gulf coast.

All Jefferson County employees are to return to work at their regularly scheduled hours on Thursday, according to a news release.

If employees need further information, they should contact their supervisors.
