A Louisiana man has filed suit against a giant oil corporation in which he alleges he was injured after a glass door shattered.
On Feb. 27, Calvin Clary filed a complaint in Jefferson County District Court against ExxonMobil. He is asking for an unspecified sum after he was injured while working at the Beaumont facility on Sept. 29.
Clary's injury occurred when glass in a door in an area known as Switchgear 2 shattered, the suit states.
Because of the incident, Clary claims he lost earnings, lost his earning capacity, experienced pain and suffering and incurred medical expenses.
He also suffered physical impairment, physical disfigurement and loss of his ability to enjoy life, according to the complaint.
ExxonMobil was negligent by failing to provide Clary with a safe environment, by failing to inspect the worksite to make sure it was safe and by failing to remedy the conditions on the premises, the suit states.
In addition to the unspecified sum in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limits of Jefferson County District Court, Clary is seeking pre- and post-judgment interest, costs, attorney's fees and other relief to which he is entitled.
John Werner of Reaud, Morgan and Quinn in Beaumont will be representing him.
The case has been assigned to Judge Milton Shuffield, 136th District Court.
