McSpadden
Beaumont attorney Floyd McSpadden Jr. will join Lamar University's advancement division as director of planned giving effective June 1, officials announced.
McSpadden, an attorney with Benckenstein, Norvell & Nathan since 1989, holds a juris doctorate from Southern Methodist University and a bachelor of arts degree in political science from Southwestern University. Born in Houston, McSpadden attended Houston public schools.
A member of the state bar since 1973, McSpadden has been board certified in estate planning and probate law since 1994 and has been a member of the College of the State Bar of Texas.
He is a member of the Real Estate, Probate & Trust Section of the State Bar of Texas.
McSpadden has participated as a speaker at estate planning and probate seminars for the Jefferson County Bar Association. His current practice includes estate planning, probate, business entity formations, business planning and real estate.
As director, McSpadden will provide leadership in the area of planned giving on behalf of Lamar University and the Lamar University Foundation. He will manage the planned giving outreach to all constituents of the university and serve as liaison to its Heritage Society.
"We are so pleased to have Floyd join our advancement division," said Camille Mouton, vice president for advancement at Lamar. "He has contributed greatly to the university in voluntary service with the LU Foundation and Friends of the Arts. Now, his legacy at Lamar will grow even more though this expanded role."
More than $54 million has been raised to date in the university's Investing in the Future comprehensive campaign. Planned gifts are expected to become a significant portion of the funds raised toward the campaign's $100 million goal, Mouton said.
"Floyd's expertise in estate planning and probate law will be a real asset to our team," said Janice Trammell, executive director of the Lamar University Foundation. "Given his experience and love for Lamar University we anticipate great things in the planned giving area of our campaign."
McSpadden has served in numerous leadership positions in Southeast Texas including president of the Lamar University Foundation, the Rotary Club of Beaumont, the Symphony of Southeast Texas, Three Rivers Council-Boy Scouts of America and as chair of the Board of Trustees for First United Methodist Church of Beaumont.
McSpadden has been honored by the Boy Scouts of America as a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award and by the Rotary Club of Beaumont as a recipient of the T. Kelsey Lamb, Sr. Business Ethics Award.
McSpadden has served on the planned giving advisory councils of Texas A&M University and Southwestern University.
McSpadden and his wife, Patricia, reside in Beaumont.
