Latest hurricane-related insurance suits filed in Jefferson County

A total of five new lawsuits against insurance companies over hurricane-related damage claims were filed in Jefferson County District Court during the week of Aug. 10 through Aug. 14.

The following complaints were filed:

  • Ronald and Noris Beavers of 3109 Grand Ave. in Port Arthur allege Texas Windstorm Insurance Association denied their claim for damages caused to their property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13. The Beavers are represented by Gerald W. Eddins of Eddins and Bennett Law Firm in Beaumont. Jefferson County District Court case number: B184-664.

  • David E. Broussard, Rebecca Broussard and Broussard Farm of Nome allege Texas Windstorm Insurance Association denied a portion of their claims for dwellings, structures and contents damages caused to their property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13. The policy was issued by defendant American States Insurance Company of Texas, according to the complaint. The Broussards instructed defendants Brad Vaughn and Williamson Insurance Agency to procure insurance coverage for them. But after the hurricane struck, the Broussards were denied their claim after adjuster Steve Cooley was assigned to investigate, the suit states. Rocky Lawdermilk of Beaumont will be representing them. Jefferson County District Court case number: A184-651.

  • Robert and Sue Dammon of 1210 Bowlin Ave. in Port Neches allege Texas Farm Bureau Underwriters denied their claim for damages to their property caused after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13. The Dammons are represented by Gregory F. Cox of The Mostyn Law Firm in Beaumont. Jefferson County District Court case number: E184-672.

  • Chunghee Kim, doing business as High Fashion, of 3240 Ave. A in Beaumont alleges Texas Windstorm Insurance Association denied her claim for contents damages caused to her property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13. TWIA denied the claim after its Vice President of Claims Reggie Warren assigned Specialty Claim Services and adjusters Brent Williams, Bryan Ayoub and Patricia Willits to investigate. Kim is represented by Michael R. Ramsey of The Mostyn Law Firm in Beaumont. Jefferson County District Court case number: E184-646.

  • Sandra Vallery of 290 Roxton Lane in Beaumont alleges Voyager Indemnity Insurance and Assurant Specialty Property denied her claim for roof, water, wind, contents, foundation and structural damages caused to her property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13. Voyager and Assurant denied her claim after they assigned Southwest Adjusters of Texas and adjuster Patricia Deverill to investigate. Vallery is represented by Michael R. Ramsey of The Mostyn Law Firm in Beaumont. Jefferson County District Court case number: E184-645.
