Lumberton man seeks expenses from rear-end collision

A Lumberton man claims he incurred property expenses of more than $1,000 and medical costs after a driver rear-ended him.

Joseph Marino Sr. filed a lawsuit Feb. 1 in Jefferson County District Court against Papco Inc. and Brandon S. Stover.

Marino claims Stover struck the rear of his vehicle while he drove on Interstate 10 on Sept. 15. At the time of the collision, Stover drove a vehicle owned by Papco.

Because of the accident, Marino suffered pain and mental anguish in addition to the costs he incurred, according to the complaint.

Marino blames Stover for causing the accident, saying he failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to swerve to avoid the collision, failed to maintain a safe distance between his vehicle and Marino's, drove too fast and failed to apply his brakes.

Marino seeks a judgment within the jurisdictional limits of Jefferson County District Court, plus pre- and post-judgment interest, costs and other relief to which he may be entitled.

Mel W. Shelander of Beaumont will be representing him.

The case has been assigned to Judge Gary Sanderson, 60th District Court.

Jefferson County District Court case number: B185-841.
