Galveston couple says contractor failed to complete $500K hurricane repair project

GALVESTON - A Galveston couple is suing a Rockwall County contractor for deserting a repair project on the plaintiffs' storm-ravaged home.

Michael and Dolly Warren claim they paid more than $500,000 to George Brunson of Rockwall, who is doing business as Brunson Restoration and Remodeling, in exchange for work on their West End residence, which was damaged by Hurricane Ike on Sept. 13, 2008.

The Warrens' suit was filed March 23 in Galveston County District Court.

According to court papers, the defendant and his employees performed work in violation of a contract with the Warrens and applicable building codes and regulations, substituted and used materials inferior to the quality agreed upon, and failed to perform the work in a good and workmanlike manner.

The plaintiffs argue that Brunson was paid sums in excess of the obligatory contract sums, but left the project unfinished, which was completed by others.

Consequently, the Warrens seek damages and a jury trial.

They are represented by League City attorneys John A. Buckley Jr. and Austin L. Webber.

Galveston County 122nd District Court Judge John Ellisor is presiding over the case.
