Driver, companies sued over fatal motorcycle wreck in Beaumont

The mother and son of a deceased man blame a Harris County resident and two corporations for the man's death.

Martha Trumble and Elton Trumble Jr. filed a lawsuit March 19 in Jefferson County District Court against Fred D. Thomas, R&L Transfer and Gator Freightways.

The plaintiffs allege their son and father, Elton Trumble, died without a will after a motorcycle collision, which occurred at 6099 College Street and Langham Road in Beaumont on March 21, 2008. Thomas operated the vehicle, owned by defendants R&L Transfer and Gator Freightways, that struck Elton Tumble, according to the complaint.

Because of the incident, Martha Trumble incurred funeral expenses, suffered mental anguish, lost consortium and suffered from lost wages, the suit states.

The plaintiffs blame Thomas for causing the accident, saying he failed to exercise due care, failed to be attentive and stopped, stood or parked outside a business or residential district, the complaint says.

In their complaint, the plaintiffs seek unspecified damages, plus costs, pre- and post-judgment interest and other relief to which they may be entitled.

Clint Brasher and Joe Muckleroy of Beaumont will be representing him.

The case has been assigned to Judge Milton Shuffield, 136th District Court.

Jefferson County District Court case number: D186-335.
