Woman sues after tripping on uneven floor mat

SHERMAN-While shopping in a Sulphur Springs Wal-Mart, Wyvonne Ford claims she tripped on the edge of a mat that was not lying flat on the floor.

She alleges the mat posed an unreasonable tripping hazard and filed suit against the retail giant on April 5, in the Sherman division of the Eastern District of Texas.

Ford claims Wal-Mart was negligent for not reducing or eliminating the "unreasonable risk of harm created by the condition of the Wal-Mart premises."

The plaintiff claims the defendant failed to use reasonable care by not taping the edge of the mat to the floor.

Ford accuses Wal-Mart of failing to train their employees to properly manage the premises and failing to warn customers of the dangerous conditions on the premises.

The plaintiff is seeking damages for medical expenses, physical pain, mental anguish, physical impairment, loss of wages and earning capacity, court costs and interest.

Houston attorney Scot G. Dollinger of Dollinger Law is representing the plaintiff. Jury trial requested.

U.S. District Judge Richard A. Schell is assigned to the case.
