Louisiana man sues over gunshot wound

A Louisiana man is suing an Orange resident for allegedly shooting him and threatening his life last December.

Jerry Rains filed his suit against Carl Malish on April 13 in Orange County District Court.

Court papers show that on Dec. 2 Rains was at Malish's Orange home when he allegedly shot him with a gun.

"The defendant violently and viciously assaulted plaintiff by shooting him with a gun," the suit states. "The defendant committed assault and battery and threatened to kill plaintiff."

The suit does not give any details as to why Rains was at the Orange home or what led Malish to shoot him.

Rains is suing for past and future medical expenses, mental anguish and lost wages.

He is represented by Beaumont attorney Mel Shelander.

The case has been assigned to Judge Dennis Powell, 163rd Judicial District.
