Hospital sues to recoup $100K from patient

Memorial Hermann Baptist Beaumont Hospital

Memorial Hermann Baptist Beaumont claims one of its former patients owes it more than $100,000 in unpaid costs for medical services the hospital rendered.

The hospital filed a lawsuit April 22 in Jefferson County District Court against Rhonda and Carl Heartfield.

According to the complaint, the hospital provided medical treatment for Rhonda Hartfield, although the hospital does not specify the treatment or when it occurred. Since then, the Heartfields have failed to reimburse the hospital for its services, the hospital alleges in the lawsuit.

Memorial Hermann seeks $109,954.46 from the Heartfields, plus attorneys' fees, pre-judgment interest at 6 percent per annum, costs, post-judgment interest at the highest legal rate and other relief to which it may be entitled.

Jared Cole Johnson and Lucas William Gaskamp of Sullins, Johnston, Rohrbach and Magers in Houston will be representing Memorial Hermann.

The case has been assigned to Judge Gary Sanderson, 60th District Court.

Jefferson County District Court case number: B186-659.
