Woman claims contractor allowed insurance to lapse

GALVESTON - A Galveston County woman seeks more than $1.2 million from Centre Builders after the residential construction company allowed her League City home's wind and flood insurance policy to lapse.

In a lawsuit filed May 10 in Galveston County District Court, Barbara Schlein alleges the defendant failed to properly insure her house against natural disasters despite an agreement clause stating otherwise.

According to the complaint, Schlein and Centre Builders entered into a contract in May 2006 to construct her house in accordance with agreed upon plans.

The plaintiff says the policy would not work after Hurricane Ike damaged her property in early September 2008

The defendant promised to fix the problems, but "to the plaintiff's knowledge, this has never occurred," the original complaint argues.

Schlein is represented by attorney Anthony P. Griffin of Galveston.

The case has been assigned to Galveston County 10th District Court Judge David Garner.
