Beaumont woman sues over fall at Austin grocery store

A Beaumont woman has filed suit against Kroger, alleging she sustained physical pain and suffering after slipping on a spilled substance while shopping in the store.

Lillie Mae Thomas claims she was shopping at the Kroger located at 211 E. Seventh St. in Austin on June 11, 2008, when she slipped on a liquid that had been spilled in the store.

In addition to her physical pain and suffering, Thomas incurred medical costs, lost wages, lost her earning capacity and suffered disfigurement, according to her complaint filed May 19 in Jefferson County District Court.

She blames Kroger for causing her fall, saying the store negligently failed to clean up the spill and failed to warn customers of the unsafe condition.

In her complaint, Thomas is seeking actual damages, plus pre- and post-judgment interest, costs and other relief to which she may be entitled.

Ryan C. Scott of The Scott Law Firm in Beaumont will be representing her.

Jefferson County District Court case number: D186-904.
