Suit blames Galveston city employee for crash

GALVESTON - Two Galveston County residents are suing the city of Galveston over a car accident with one of its employees, recent court documents say.

Giorgi Tsomala and Giorgi Rokva claim Cecil Jones was on the clock for the city on June 1, 2008, when he failed to yield the right of way at the intersection of 19th Street and Avenue K and collided with the plaintiffs.

Their suit was filed June 3 in Galveston County District Court.

"This accident caused serious and painful injuries to the plaintiffs as well as property damage," the original petition says.

The city is faulted for hiring and retaining Jones, who is also a defendant in the case. Jones failed to take proper evasive action to avoid hitting Tsomala and Rokva, the suit says.

The plaintiffs seek unspecified monetary damages for physical pain, mental anguish, medical expenses, and lost wages.

They are represented by the Blum Law Firm P.C.

The case has been assigned to Galveston County 212th District Court Judge Susan Criss.
