A Port Arthur man claims he incurred medical costs after a driver rear-ended him at a red light and fled the scene.
Socorro Vargas filed a lawsuit Aug. 26 in Jefferson County District Court against Aracely Zamora.
Vargas claims he drove in the 4900 block of State Highway 87 and slowed to a stop for a red light on Sept. 23, 2009, when Zamora struck him, then fled the scene.
Because of the accident, Vargas experienced pain, suffering and mental anguish, according to the complaint.
Vargas blames Zamora for causing the accident, saying Zamora negligently failing to keep a proper lookout, for failing to maintain a clear distance between her vehicle and Vargas', for failing to properly apply her brakes, for failing to control her speed and for fleeing the scene.
Vargas seeks a judgment for damages within the jurisdictional limits of Jefferson County District Court, plus pre-judgment interest at the maximum rate allowed by law, post-judgment interest at the legal rate, costs and other relief the court deems just.
Brett S. Thomas of Roebuck, Thomas, Roebuck and Adams in Beaumont will be representing him.
The case has been assigned to Judge Gary Sanderson, 60th District Court.
