Orange residents Ira and Willie Mae Brown sought and received a restraining order against the city of Orange on Monday, temporarily stopping the city from demolishing their property.
The couples' petition was filed Sept. 27 in Orange County District Court.
Judge Pat Clark, 128th District Court, has slated a temporary injunction hearing for Oct. 1.
Court papers show the city ordered the demolition of the Browns' property, located at 101 Dewey St., on Sept. 15 after determining the structure was beyond repair.
The couple claims the order is "illegal" and violates Texas constitutional law.
They contend the municipal judge who ordered the demolition never inspected the property himself to determine if the building is substandard, court papers say.
The Browns are represented by Orange attorney Marcia DeLarue.
