Man claims barge sold for scrap without consent

A Jefferson County man claims barges and other vessels he owned were wrongfully sold for scrap metal.

Chester Slay, as trustee for the Louis Family Trust, filed a lawsuit Sept. 22 in Jefferson County District Court against DRK Group and Dean and Rosi Schroeder.

Slay claims he owned vessels and barges that the defendants cut apart and sold for scrap without his consent.

"Defendants, by their intentional and voluntary acts, wrongfully exercised dominion and/or control over the personal property, depriving the Plaintiff of ownership and the value of the vessels and barges," the suit states.

In his complaint, Slay seeks an unspecified judgment against the defendants, plus other relief the court deems just.

Greg M. Dykeman and Martha R. Campbell of Strong, Pipkin, Bissell and Ledyard in Beaumont will be representing him.

The case has been assigned to Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court.
