Women in litigation over auto collision

A Beaumont woman claims she sustained injuries when a driver struck her vehicle after attempting to pass her as she made a right-hand turn.

Brittini Bourque filed a lawsuit Oct. 28 in Jefferson County District Court against Emily Patrizi.

Bourque claims she drove north in the 3600 block of Ridgeland St. in Beaumont on Oct. 29, 2008, when the incident occurred.

"While making a lawful right hand turn into a private driveway, Plaintiff's vehicle was struck on the right side of her vehicle by Defendant who was attempting to pass Plaintiff's vehicle on the right," the suit states.

Because of the accident, Bourque incurred medical costs, experienced physical pain and suffering and endured physical impairment, the complaint says. In addition, she claims she lost earnings and suffered mental anguish.

Bourque blames Patrizi for causing the accident, saying she failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to turn her vehicle to the left to avoid a collision, failed to keep a clear distance between her vehicle and Bourque's and failed to timely apply her brakes.

In her complaint, Bourque seeks a judgment within the jurisdictional limits of Jefferson County District Court, plus pre-judgment interest at the maximum rate allowed by law, post-judgment interest at the legal rate, costs and other relief the court deems just.

Todd W. LeBlanc of Beaumont will be representing her.

Judge Gary Sanderson, 60th District Court, has been assigned to the case.
