Excessive speed blamed for rollover, driver sued

When a Port Arthur man rode in a vehicle on June 13, he incurred injuries after the vehicle flipped several times, according to recently filed court documents.

Baber Naeem filed a lawsuit Oct. 28 in Jefferson County District Court against Shujat Ali Swati.

Naeem claims he rode in a vehicle Swati drove at an excessive speed. As a result of his speedy driving, Swati lost control of the vehicle, causing it to flip several times, according to the complaint.

In addition to his injuries, Naeem incurred medical costs, lost wages and his wage earning capacity and experienced pain, suffering, mental anguish, physical impairment and physical disfigurement, the suit states.

Naeem blames Swati for causing the collision, saying he drove negligently.

In his complaint, Naeem seeks actual and exemplary damages, plus pre- and post-judgment interest, costs and other relief the court deems just.

Terry Bryant and Gregg Anderson of Houston will be representing him.

Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court, has been assigned to the case.
