Status conference set for December in Buckner injury case

Attorneys for Buckner Children and Family Services have filed a notice of statute conference, slating a future meeting with plaintiff and former employee Jennifer Buentello.

Buentello, an Orange County resident, filed suit against Buckner on June 9 in Jefferson County District Court, alleging she sustained injuries to her right knee while attempting to lift heavy equipment at work.

In her suit, Buentello claims she was working for defendant Buckner Children and Family Services on June 13, 2008, when she suffered the alleged injury.

Buckner filed the notice on Nov. 5, scheduling the status conference for Dec. 1.

Buentello claims she had to undergo surgery on her right knee as a result of the incident, court papers say.

She claims Buckner failed to instruct her on how to lift and failed to provide her with lifting equipment to safely perform her duties.

Buentello is seeking damages for her alleged mental anguish, medical expenses and lost wages.

Alto V. Watson III of the Law Offices of Gilbert T. Adams in Beaumont represents her.

Mehaffy Weber attorney Michele Smith is representing Buckner.

Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court, presiding.
