Women sue storm recovery company over auto wreck in League City

GALVESTON - Two Houston women are suing a Florida home builder and one of its employees over a car accident two years ago.

Sonya Franklin and Brenda Gilliam claim Bruce Desarme of Lehigh Acres, Fla., was driving for Eastmond on Nov. 7, 2008, in the 800 block of East Main Street in League City when his company-owned vehicle struck the back of theirs.

According to the original complaint filed Nov. 2 in Galveston County District Court, the defendants were in the area to assist with post-Hurricane Ike cleanup and rebuilding efforts.

The plaintiffs say that Desarme violently collided into the rear of their vehicle without warning, causing them to suffer severe injuries.

They blame the driver for not controlling his speed in addition to not maintaining a proper lookout. His employer is faulted for hiring and retaining him.

Franklin and Gilliam consequently seek unspecified monetary damages and a jury trial.

They are represented by attorney Daniel Jack Warren of Houston.

The case has been assigned to Galveston County 56th District Court Judge Lonnie Cox.
