Lawsuit accuses red-light runner of causing crash

GALVESTON - Patrick Melchor has filed suit against Brandon and Kimberly Russell over a two-vehicle accident six months ago in which he was reportedly rear-ended, recent court documents say.

In a lawsuit filed Nov. 15 in Galveston County District Court, plaintiff Melchor claims that on May 21 Brandon Russell "negligently and illegally struck with great force the rear of his vehicle" as the complainant stopped for a traffic light in the 4900 block of FM 519 in League City.

The original complaint argues that Brandon Russell traveled at a rate of speed that was unacceptable under the law thus failed to timely stop his vehicle at a red light.

Meanwhile, Kimberly Russell is faulted for negligently entrusting the vehicle which allegedly caused the collision.

Melchor has sustained physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, lost wages and medical expenses.

Consequently, he seeks unspecified monetary damages and a jury trial.

Attorney Michael G. Martinez of Friendswood is representing the plaintiff.

The case has been assigned to Galveston County 122nd District Court Judge John Ellisor.
