Silsbee residents want the court to approve a $40,000 settlement with an insurance company over an auto collision involving their son.
Lonnie and Dawn Long filed a lawsuit on behalf of Dawson Long on Nov. 23 in Jefferson County District Court against Billy R. Burcham Jr. and Billy R. Burcham.
The Longs claim Dawson Long rode in a vehicle driven by Billy R. Burcham Jr. in Hardin County on June 27 when the vehicle was in a collision. They allege Billy R. Burcham Jr. failed to control his speed and failed to yield the right-of-way.
Because of the accident, Dawson Long sustained damages and his parents incurred medical costs, according to the complaint.
At the time of the accident, Billy R. Burcham owned the vehicle Billy R. Burcham Jr. drove. They had insurance with State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company, the suit states.
Since the collision, State Farm has offered the Longs $40,385 to settle the claim they filed on behalf of their son, the complaint says.
The Longs want the court to approve the settlement and to provide other relief it deems just.
David J. Larue of Beaumont will be representing them.
The case has been assigned to Judge Gary Sanderson, 60th District Court.
