GALVESTON - A Pearland man claims that he was involved in a wreck with a drunk driver, recent court documents say.
In a lawsuit filed Dec. 9 in Galveston County District Court, plaintiff Ronald Bennett faults Paul Terry Young of League City for striking his vehicle as he waited at a traffic light on Feb. 27.
Bennett was traveling westbound in the 1400 block of W. Main Street and the intersection with N. Wesley Drive in League City when he came to a full stop.
Moments later, defendant Young "suddenly and without any warning" rear-ended Bennett and fled the scene, the original complaint says.
It adds police then arrested Young at his residence where it was discovered that he had been driving while intoxicated.
"The conduct of the defendant in becoming intoxicated due to the ingestion of alcohol and/or drugs prior to operating a motor vehicle on the public roadways of Texas was more than momentary thoughtlessness, inadvertence, or error of judgment and was of such a character as to make the defendant guilty of gross negligence," the suit says.
In addition to alleged drunk driving, the defendant is blamed for operating his vehicle in a careless and reckless manner, failing to promptly apply his brakes and not keeping a proper lookout.
Bennett seeks unspecified monetary damages.

Galveston County 56th District Court Judge Lonnie Cox is presiding over the case.
