Bicycle crash with car subject of lawsuit

GALVESTON - A bicycle ride for a mentally disabled Galveston County man two years ago has resulted in a lawsuit.

Linda Dowell alleges that Lisa Pesak hit Amos Glen Lasater with her vehicle on Dec. 12, 2008, as Lasater was riding his bicycle in the intersection of Castle Drive and Highway 6 in Santa Fe, court papers filed Dec. 9 in Galveston County District Court say.

Dowell faults the defendant for not maintaining a proper lookout, improperly controlling her vehicle, failing to turn her vehicle to avoid a collision and not yielding the right-of-way.

The suit consequently seeks unspecified monetary damages for physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, impairment, lost wages and repair costs for Lasater's bicycle in addition to a jury trial.

The case has been assigned to Galveston County 10th District Court Judge David Garner.
