The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Consolidated Independent School District is being sued for allegedly allowing an autistic student to be molested by a known sexual offender.
On behalf of his minor daughter, Anthony Chauvin filed the suit against the district Dec. 1 in Orange County District Court.
The suit also names school officials Dr. Pauline Hargrove and Dr. Terri Estes as defendants, plus the minor offender, who is currently being held at the Orange County jail.
Court papers show that on Oct. 12 the autistic child was sexually assaulted while walking on the track during a physical education class. Allegedly, the offending student had a history of sexual assault, which LCMISD should have been aware of, the plaintiff claims.
The suit alleges LCMISD should have done a background investigation on the offending student before letting him enroll.
The suit also alleges LCMISD negligently "failed to provide adequate supervision" on the date of the incident.
Chauvin is suing for his daughter's psychological treatment, her medical expenses and mental anguish, plus exemplary damages.
He is represented by Port Arthur attorney Lance Bradley.
Judge Dennis Powell, 163rd District Court, has been assigned to the case.
