Local Randolph Oliver is suing Port Arthur resident Terrence Coleman for allegedly causing an automobile collision then fleeing from the scene before police could arrive.
The suit was filed Dec. 17 in Jefferson County District Court.
According to the petition, on June 5 Oliver was stopped in the 1700 block of Woodworth Street in Port Arthur when Coleman rear-ended a motorist behind Oliver, causing the vehicle to slam into Oliver's vehicle.
Coleman left the accident scene before providing any information to the investigating officer, the suit alleges.
In his suit, Oliver alleges Coleman negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, control his speed, maintain a safe distance between vehicles and apply his brakes in a timely manner.
Oliver is suing for his alleged past and future mental anguish, medical expenses, lost earnings and physical pain.
He is represented by Kountze attorney Stewart Butler.
Judge Gary Sanderson, 60th District Court, is presiding over the case.
