Man trips over board in automotive garage, sues

Beaumont resident Michael Barnes has filed suit against Jerry's Automotive Service for alleged injuries he received after tripping over a board inside the garage work area.

The suit was filed Jan.10 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to the petition, on Jan. 25, 2010, Barnes was picking up a repaired rim at Jerry's Automotive. As he exited the garage, "he tripped over a board resulting in the injuries and damages made the basis of this suit."

In his suit, Barnes alleges Jerry's Automotive owed him and the general public a duty to inspect and maintain its premises and remedy any dangerous conditions.

Barnes is suing for his alleged past and future mental anguish, medical expenses, impairment and lost wages.

He is represented by attorney Tom Oxford of the Beaumont law firm Waldman Smallwood

Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court, has been assigned to the case.
