Left turn from wrong lane caused collision, suit claims

Beaumont resident Bettye Savoy is suing Newton County resident Sherry Edwards for allegedly making an illegal left turn and striking her vehicle.

The suit was filed Jan. 11 in Jefferson County District Court.

Court records show that on March 3, 2009, Savoy was traveling west on Calder Avenue.

According to the complaint, as Savoy attempted to make a left hand turn onto an Interstate 10 service road, she was struck by Edwards, who was also traveling west on Calder but turned left from the wrong lane.

In her suit, Savoy accuses Edwards of negligently failing to yield the right of way, obey traffic laws and keep a proper lookout.

She is suing for his alleged past and future mental anguish, medical expenses, impairment and lost wages.

Beaumont attorney Thomas Moses is representing her.

Judge Milton Shuffield, 136th District Court, has been assigned to the case.
