Suit says drunk driver caused injuries to woman, son

A Beaumont woman claims her son suffered multiple damages after an intoxicated driver made a failed attempt to pass a vehicle.

Lisa Weber filed a lawsuit Jan. 12 in Jefferson County District Court against John R. Jones.

Lisa Weber claims she and her minor son, Eric Weber, were riding in a vehicle on Avenue A, attempting to make a left turn onto Terrell Street on Feb. 10, 2009, when Jones attempted to pass to the left when unsafe. As a result, Jones smashed into the vehicle in which the Webers rode, according to the complaint.

Because of the accident, Lisa and Eric Weber both suffered physical impairment, physical pain and mental anguish, the suit states. In addition, Lisa Weber incurred medical costs, lost wages and her earning capacity and sustained exemplary damages while her son suffered disfigurement, the complaint says.

At the time of the accident, Jones was an incompetent and unfit driver in that he was intoxicated and created an unreasonable risk of danger to other drivers on the road, Lisa Weber claims.

In her complaint, Lisa Weber seeks an unspecified judgment, plus interest, costs and other relief the court deems just.

Jonathan C. Juhan of Beaumont will be representing her.

Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court, has been assigned to the case.
