Death of pedestrian leads to suit against driver, company

GALVESTON - Robert Meek has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Gullett & Associates Inc. and one of its employees.

Meek blames Robert Mark Clarke, who works for Gullett & Associates, for hitting and killing his wife Jackie Meek with a vehicle belonging to the company as she crossed a Dickinson street, the lawsuit filed Jan. 24 in Galveston County District Court says.

The Meeks' minor son, Ray Allen Meek, is also a plaintiff in the case.

According to the original petition, Jackie Meek was attempting to walk across the intersection of FM 517 East and Country Club Drive on March 16, 2009, when "suddenly and without warning," Clarke collided with her.

The suit shows that the defendant failed to yield the right of way when he left a stop sign.

Gullett & Associates is accused of hiring and retaining Clark as well as failing to properly train and supervise him.

The estate of Jackie Meek seeks unspecified monetary damages.

Attorney Leonid Kishinevsky of Houston is representing the complainants, and Galveston County 56th District Court Judge Lonnie Cox.
