Seeking more than $50,000 in damages and benefits rendered, the city of Port Arthur has filed suit against a motorist who caused a collision with an employee two years ago.
The city filed its suit against Martha Alice Nunez on Feb. 3 in Jefferson County District Court.
Court records show that on Feb. 16, 2009, Nunez, driving a 2001 Ford Explorer, ran a red light at the intersection of Highway 247 and 25th Street in Port Arthur, colliding with another vehicle.
The collision caused both vehicles to strike city employee Jerel Taylor's vehicle, the suit states.
To date, the city has paid Taylor $23,441.44 in benefits for injuries he received.
A police report shows Nunez disregarded a stop and go signal.
The city is represented by Austin attorney Margaret Reaves, who is with the Texas Municipal League as subrogee.
Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court, has been assigned to the case.
