Man sues employer for making false criminal accusations against him

GALVESTON - A Santa Fe man believes his employer falsely accused him of workplace theft, recent court documents say.

Jerry Jerome Kershaw filed a lawsuit against Seabrook Seafood Inc. and Thomas Edwin Hults, alleging they filed false charges against him after an incident last year involving a stolen debit card.

"The defendants knew, or most certainly should have known, that such accusations were false," the suit filed Feb. 3 in Galveston County District Court states.

According to the complaint, Kershaw faced three criminal charges, but they were dismissed.

"The defendants did not have probable cause to institute or procure the prosecutions in question and acted with malice," the original petition says.

The plaintiff consequently seeks unspecified monetary damages.

He is represented by Hagood, Neumann & Huckeba LLP.

The case has been assigned to Galveston County 212th District Court Judge Susan Criss.
