Woman claims collision so bad Jaws of Life needed

Port Arthur resident Guadalupe Vasquez has filed suit against William Deadmon III, claiming he caused an automobile collision so severe the Jaws of Life were needed to pry her from her car.

The suit was filed Feb. 3 in Jefferson County District Court.

Court records show that on Feb. 20, 2009, Vasquez and Deadmon were traveling side-by-side on Highway 69 in Port Arthur when Deadmon changed lanes without warning and "violently collided with her."

"The impact was so severe that plaintiff had to be removed from the wreckage by the Jaws of Life," the suit states, adding that Deadmon allegedly caused the collision by negligently failing to keep a proper lookout and maintain control of his vehicle.

Vasquez is suing for her alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain, impairment, disfigurement and lost wages.

Attorney Tommy Yeates of the Beaumont law firm Moore, Landrey represents her.

Judge Milton Shuffield, 136th District Court, has been assigned to the case.
