Man claims he was crushed by backhoe, files personal injury suit

GALVESTON – Claiming he was crushed by a piece of the company's equipment, Jacob Walker is suing Bates Backhoe Service.

Walker says he was taking measurements for an electrical conduit in a ditch at Texas City High School for his employer LECS Ltd. on Jan. 18 when the alleged incident happened.

According to his suit filed Feb. 23 in Galveston County District Court, Bates Backhoe was operating equipment behind Walker as he was working.

The backhoe in question became fully extended and split the ditch, causing a side wall to collapse and the piece of equipment to fall on the plaintiff, the original petition says.

Walker consequently seeks unspecified monetary damages and a jury trial.

He is represented by The Buzbee Law Firm.

Galveston County 212th District Court Judge Susan Criss is presiding over the case.

Case No. 11-cv-0328
