Cyclist blames poorly lit parking lot for crash into truck

GALVESTON Olivio Salinas claims building materials that were protruding from a pickup truck belonging to Stanley Security Solutions Inc. knocked him from his bicycle, recent court documents say.

In a lawsuit filed March 4 in Galveston County Court at Law No. 3, Salinas explains that he was traveling through the parking lot of a League City shopping center the evening of Oct. 12, 2010, when he passed by the defendant's vehicle and ran into its contents.

The plaintiff says that the parking lot was poorly lit, insisting he did not see the materials as he rode past the truck.

According to the original petition, "He kept a proper lookout, but he had no way of knowing that the building materials were sticking out of the defendant's truck."

Salinas suffered various injuries, including a concussion and facial lacerations, it says.

Consequently, the complainant seeks $50,000 in monetary damages and a jury trial.

He is represented by attorney Gregory W. Allen of Houston.

The case has been assigned to Galveston County Court at Law No. 3 Judge Christopher Dupuy.
