Couple sues to recover jail bond money from woman

GALVESTON – Betty and Charles Sailor seek to recover approximately $14,000 from a woman they bonded from the Galveston County Jail.

In a lawsuit filed March 9 in Galveston County Court at Law No. 1, the Sailors claim that Jeanne Elizabeth Richey has failed to pay them a total of $13,794.

Richey rented a home from the complainants and received their assistance for her alleged business of helping inmates petitioning for parole, the original petition says.

The Sailors claim Richey wrote a check for rent in the amount of $1,009 which was returned for insufficient funds and failed to remit payment on a $2,000 bond they advanced for her release from the county jail.

Richey also owes $6,609 for rent, $4,800 for usage of the plaintiffs' vehicle and $385 for their services with the operation of her business, the suit says.

In addition to the funds in question, a jury trial is requested.

Attorney Jack D. Ewing of League City is representing the Sailors, and Galveston County Court at Law No. 1 Judge John Grady is presiding over the case.
