Auto dealer sues after sign maker fails to finish installation

A Jefferson County man claims he lost $11,000 when a company failed to erect a sign after he had already paid them 50 percent down for their services.

Danny Martin, doing business as Martin Motors, filed a lawsuit March 8 in Jefferson County District Court against John Anderson, doing business as Signcoled.

Martin claims he hired Anderson on May 24 to erect a sign on his property for $22,088. On July 5, Martin forwarded Anderson a check for $11,000, representing half of the agreed-upon price, according to the complaint.

According to the complaint, Anderson agreed to return to erect the sign, but he has failed to do so.

Martin accuses Anderson of conversion and seeks unspecified punitive and exemplary damages, plus costs, attorney's fees and other relief to which he may be entitled.

Carl A. Parker of The Parker Law Firm in Port Arthur will be representing him.

Judge Gary Sanderson, 60th District Court, has been assigned to the case.

Case No. B189-559
