Woman claims kids injured when driver ran stop sign

A woman has filed suit against the driver who she claims failed to yield the right-of-way at a stop sign, causing a collision and injuries to three minors.

Sonya Pickens claims minors Kymerson Thomas, De'Asia Nickerson and Marquel Pickens were riding in a vehicle Pickens was driving south in the 900 block of Brooklyn Ave. in Beaumont when the collision occurred.

According to the complaint filed March 18 in Jefferson County District Court, Thomas Randall Leleux was operating a 2008 Ford Super Duty owned by defendant Hydrochem when he failed to yield the right-of-way at a stop sign, causing the collision.

Because of the accident, Thomas, Nickerson and Pickens experienced physical pain, mental anguish, disfigurement and physical impairment and incurred medical costs, the suit states.

Leleux negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to safely stop his vehicle and failed to keep his vehicle under control, the complaint says.

In her complaint, Pickens is seeking actual damages within the jurisdictional limits of Jefferson County District Court, plus pre- and post-judgment interest, costs and other relief the court deems just.

Charlton P. Hornsby of Beaumont will be representing her.

The case has been assigned to Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court.
