Woman sues roof company after falling in puddle under leak

A Hardin County woman has filed suit against the construction company that she claims erected a building with a roof leak which caused her to slip on accumulated water.

Janine Colton claims she was working at a building on Folsom Drive in Beaumont owned by defendant Hamburg Partners on July 7 when she slipped and fell.

Because of her fall, Colton suffered severe bodily injuries, great physical and mental pain and anguish and incurred medical costs, according to the complaint filed April 8 in Jefferson County District Court.

In addition, Colton suffered physical impairment and experienced an impaired ability to perform household duties, the suit states.

Colton names Hamburg Partners, James E. Hoskinson and constructor MRT Contracting as defendants, saying they negligently allowed a slip hazard on their premises, failed to inspect their premises to discover the slip hazard and failed to correct the dangerous condition, the complaint says.

In addition, Colton blames the defendants for failing to warn Colton of the dangerous condition and for failing to correct the dangerous condition.

In her complaint, Colton is seeking a judgment within the jurisdictional limits of Jefferson County District Court, plus pre- and post-judgment interest at the highest legal interest rate and other relief the court deems just.

B. Adam Terrell of Weller, Green, Toups and Terrell will be representing her.

The case has been assigned to Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court.
