GALVESTON � Santa Fe residents Steven and Charlene Hubbard contend they received no satisfaction in the work performed on their home by Satisfaction Decorating and Remodeling Inc.
In a lawsuit filed May 5 in Galveston County District Court, the Hubbards claim the business left their residence in disarray and its owner acted belligerent when they attempted to address certain issues.
Court papers show the plaintiffs hired Satisfaction sometime around last August to install new roof shingles and replace the windows and doors.
The Hubbards state that Satisfaction and its subcontractors ripped out the old doors and windows and removed some of the original shingles, but later stopped working on the house.
"In fact, Satisfaction left the Hubbards' home with holes in the walls and the roof," the suit says.
Prompted by winter's approach and a newborn baby, the Hubbards tracked down Randall Whitfield, the defendant's proprietor, who agreed to finish the work.
Satisfaction and its subcontractors resumed the work, but their efforts were less than satisfactory, the suit says. According to the Hubbards, Whitfield went on a profanity-laced tirade and left the project unfinished again when told about the allegedly poor workmanship.
The suit further explains that Whitfield spent time on jail and visited the plaintiffs upon his release in an effort to secure payment. They reportedly worked out an agreement requiring the defendant to finish the work by Oct. 30, 2010, or it must deduct $200 for every day the house remains in disrepair after that date.
The Hubbards say that the deadline passed without the structure finished. Whitfield returned three weeks later to demand payment only to leave in another fit of rage, they allege.
"Satisfaction and its subcontractors caused damage to other parts of the house as a result of the defective work but were not themselves the subject of the defective work, including large holes in the house, the walls surrounding the windows and doors, the roof itself, the insulation, the flashing, the drywall and the molding," the suit states.
Consequently, the plaintiffs seek more than $50,000 and a jury trial.
They are represented by attorney Daniel R. Dutko of Houston.
Galveston County 122nd District Court Judge John Ellisor is presiding over the case.
