Slip & fall filed against Market Basket for water near ice machine

Beaumont resident Janice Simpson has filed suit against Market Basket No. 6, claiming she slipped on water near the ice machine two years ago.

The suit was filed July 1 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to the lawsuit, on July 4, 2009, Simpson was walking to the ice machine inside the Market Basket on Lavaca Street in Beaumont when she slipped and fell.

The suit alleges Market Basket negligently allowed the water to remain on the floor, causing a hazardous condition.

The plaintiff is suing for her alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain, impairment, lost wages and disfigurement, plus all court costs.

Beaumont attorney Brian Sutton of Sutton & Jacobs represents her.

Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court, has been assigned to the case.
