A Jefferson County jury recently awarded plaintiff Lacey Lowery more than $3,000 in damages, finding that defendant Stuart Rumby negligently rear-ended her four years ago.
Lowery filed suit against Rumby on July 8, 2008, in Jefferson County District Court, alleging he negligently failed to keep a proper lookout while driving.
The case went to trial on Monday, July 5, in Judge Donald Floyd's 172nd District Court and ended the following day.
Court records show that Lowery was traveling south on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard near the intersection of Elgie Street in Beaumont when the incident occurred.
Lowery had slowed for traffic when Rumby "rammed her from behind, pushing plaintiff's vehicle into the vehicle in front of plaintiff," the lawsuit states.
Jurors awarded Lowery $1,651.58 for her medical expenses and an additional $1,500 for her mental anguish, declining to award her any damages for her alleged lost earnings and impairment.
Lowery is represented by E. Hart Green of Weller, Green, Toups and Terrell in Beaumont.
Houston attorney Karl Drews represents Rumby.
