Red light runner sued for causing pileup

Area resident Joshua Haley has filed suit against Beaumont Melissa Pope, alleging she ran a red light and caused a collision on the bus he was riding in.

The suit was filed July 11 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to the lawsuit, on Feb. 1 Pope was traveling north on 11th Street when she disregarded a stoplight and struck an 18-wheeler, which was pushed into the city bus Haley was riding in.

The suit accuses Pope of negligently failing to stop at a red light and traveling at an excessive speed.

The plaintiff is suing for his alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain, impairment, disfigurement and lost wages, plus all court costs.

Beaumont attorney Clay Dugas represents him.

Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court, has been assigned to the case.
