Engineer files racial discrimination suit after losing job for reporting racial slurs

SHERMAN - An engineer for a Sherman medical center has filed a lawsuit against his employer alleging he was fired for reporting racial discrimination.

Claiming violations of his civil rights, Anthony Jones filed suit against Vanguard Resources Inc. on Aug. 3 in the Eastern District of Texas, Sherman Division.

In October 2010, Jones was hired by Vanguard Resources as a lead engineer for the Heritage Park Surgical Center located in Sherman. He states between December and January, the director of Management called him "buckwheat" and a scrub tech called him by a racial slure. Jones was fired from his position in March by the director of Management.

The defendant is accused of violating Jones' civil rights by discriminating against Jones on the basis of his race and by retaliating against Jones for reporting discrimination.

The plaintiff is seeking damages for mental anguish, punitive damages, attorney's fees, court costs and interest.

Jones is represented by Sherman attorney Ronald R. Huff. A jury trial is requested.

U.S. District Judge Michael H. Schneider is assigned to the case.
