Slip & fall filed against Market Basket

Groves resident Melissa LeBlanc has filed a slip-and-fall lawsuit against Bruce's Market Basket and B.T. Enterprises.

The suit was filed Oct. 25 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to the lawsuit, on Sept. 23, 2010, LeBlanc was shopping at the Groves Market Basket with her son. As she rounded the isle in front of the meat department, she slipped "on a great deal of water that had gathered from an employee spraying down the department."

The suit alleges that LeBlanc landed on her left kneecap, sustaining a fracture to her patella.

The suit accuses the defendants of negligently causing the incident in question and for negligently failing to correct the dangerous condition.

The plaintiff is suing for her alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain, impairment, disfigurement and lost wages, plus all court costs.

Beaumont attorney Jessica Hallmark of Dunham Hallmark represents her.

Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court, is assigned to the case.
