Crash on Dowlen subject of suit

An Orange County man claims he sustained painful injuries after a driver rear-ended his vehicle as he waited at a stop light.

David W. Watson filed a lawsuit Nov. 8 in Jefferson County District Court against Peyton C. Smith.

In his complaint, Watson alleges he was stopped at a light in the 100 block of Dowlen Road when Smith, who was driving behind him, failed to stop in time and struck the back of his vehicle.

In addition to his injuries, Watson incurred medical costs; experienced physical pain, suffering, physical impairment and mental anguish; and incurred property damages, according to the complaint.

Watson blames Smith for causing the collision, saying he negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to keep a clear distance between his vehicle and Smtih's and drove too fast, among other negligent acts.

In his complaint, Watson seeks a judgment within the jurisdictional limits of Jefferson County District Court, plus pre-judgment interest at the maximum rate allowed by laws, post-judgment interest at the legal rate, costs and other relief the court deems just.

Chris M. Portner and J. Trenton Bond of Portner and Bond in Beaumont will be representing him.

Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court, has been assigned to the case.
