The State Office of Risk Management has filed suit against two Beaumont residents in hopes of collecting worker's compensation benefits paid to Sjolanda Brown.
The suit, filed Nov.14 in Jefferson County District Court, names Singhasuk Pattaraporn and Tula Pongprueksa as defendants.
According to the lawsuit, on Nov. 4, 2009, Pattaraporn, driving a Toyota Rav4 owned by Pongprueska, was traveling north on Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway in Beaumont.
Brown, who was traveling south on MLK, proceeded through a green light and was struck by Pattaraporn, who turned left without a protected arrow.
Following the incident, SORM administered worker's compensation benefits to Brown, the suit states.
SORM alleges both defendants were negligent in causing the collision and is suing to recover the benefits paid.
Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott represents it.
Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court, has been assigned to the case.
