GALVESTON - A Jefferson County woman who claims her breast surgery has left her disfigured has filed a medical malpractice suit against her doctor.
Mary Kay Langham filed the lawsuit on Nov. 18 in Galveston County District Court against Dr. Garry Wayne Killyon, Fort Bend Surgery Center Inc. and East Side Surgery Inc.
According to the complaint, Langham claims she underwent three unsuccessful surgical procedures in an effort to reduce the size of her breasts.
Langham first had a breast reduction operation performed by Killyon at the ESSC in Sugar Land on Jan. 15, 2010.
According to the original petition, the physician expected to remove about 500 grams of breast tissue, but extracted only 200 grams instead.
The plaintiff was discharged without any drains in her breasts, but she returned to Killyon's office days later complaining of hematomas and the separation of skin at the surgical site, the suit states.
Langham then reported to FBSC where another operation was performed. She was released only to experience severe pain and a fever afterwards, the suit says.
A visit to Killyon resulted in her hospitalization and the third and final surgery, which reportedly did not fix the problems.
"In the following days, Mary Kay was still experiencing pain, fluid build-up and skin tightening and separation in her breasts," the suit says.
"She was forced to seek treatment at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, Tex., in an effort to save her skin in the area of her breasts."
Langham claims the ordeal left her "permanently injured and grossly disfigured."
Consequently, she seeks unspecified monetary damages and a jury trial.
She is represented by The Law Offices of David L. Thornton.
The case has been assigned to Galveston County 405th District Court Judge Wayne Mallia.
