Beaumont woman files slip-and-fall lawsuit against Wal-Mart

A Beaumont woman has filed a personal injury lawsuit against Wal-Mart after she slipped on a wet floor in the produce department.

Maria Petty filed suit against Wal-Mart Stores, Texas LLC, individually and doing business as Wal-Mart, on Oct. 21 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to the complaint, on Oct. 21, 2009, Petty was grocery shopping at a Wal-Mart in Jefferson County. She states she fell because of a dangerous condition on the floor of the produce department.

Wal-Mart is accused of negligence for permitting the floor to become unreasonably dangerous by having a slippery substance on the floor, such as water, negligently or willfully allowing such condition to continue and negligently or willfully failing to warn Petty of the condition of the floor.

The plaintiff is seeking damages for medical expenses, physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, physical impairment, loss of earnings, loss of earning capacity, interest and court costs.

A jury trial is requested.

Brett S. Thomas of Roebuck, Thomas, Roebuck & Adams in Beaumont is representing the plaintiff.
