Mixson appointed judge of Texas First Judicial District

Buna attorney Craig Mixson, candidate for District Judge, First Judicial District of Texas, has been appointed by Gov. Rick Perry as judge of the First Judicial District in Jasper, Newton, Sabine and San Augustine counties.

The seat was recently vacated by Judge Gary Gatlin.

Mixson, licensed by the State Bar of Texas since 1995, practices law in his hometown of Buna and is a lifelong resident of Jasper County.

He has nearly 20 years legal experience representing thousands of clients in family, civil, criminal, real estate, personal injury and corporate law issues. For the last 15 years Mixson has served as General Counsel for Jasper Newton Electric Cooperative.

He is a member of the Jasper County Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Texas Pro-Bono College and is a past member of both the Angelina and Jefferson County Bar Associations. He is admitted to practice law in both the Eastern District of Texas and the Southern District of Texas.

IMixson also volunteers his services for local churches and organizations including Habitat for Humanity, East Texas Mutual Aid Association, Buna Volunteer Fire Department, Buna Chamber of Commerce and Advocates for Children Inc. (CASA) to name a few.



"I am humbled by Gov. Perry's appointment and am looking forward to serving the citizens of Jasper, Newton, Sabine & San Augustine counties as Judge. My roots in the district are deep and I promise to work hard, to be fair and impartial and do my best to treat everybody the same", said Mixson.



A swearing in ceremony will be held in the District Courtroom of the Jasper County Courthouse. The public will be invited to attend. Details forthcoming.
